New, Old Project - Cushion Covers for the Sis

Still catching up on old projects.* I actually had to look up since when I've had the fabric for this project. End of September? Ouch, that means I've been planning it since mid-September! On top I've had my sister's sofa cushion for all of those six months... Well, better late than never.

Fabric, batting, and interior fabric have been cut. Pieces for the envelope backing have been assembled and are ready to be quilted.

Yes, quilted - I'd planned to keep the cushion covers really simple, maybe even completely unquilted, to finish them today but then fancy struck. Wouldn't the mirror balls be set off just great by a bunch of straight, angular lines? This is the first backing piece showing my efforts and proving my thinking right.

I love where this is going and I'm sure my sister will be delighted, too, but I also know that I won't be finishing these pretties today. Not least of all because my water soluble marker is giving up the ghost...why do these things always happen on Sundays?! Anyway, I'm looking forward to spend more time with this new, old project.

Quilting Those Babies

Those delicious baby quilts I've been making, I mean.

I've been quilting away both Saturday and Sunday afternoon, taking my time and burying a lot of threads. Basically I'm sticking to easy straight line quilting next to the seams to accentuate the prints whilst keeping it simple.

Initially I was scared that the flannel back of the first quilt might pose some trouble but, thankfully, quilting has been a dream.

The second quilt follows mostly the same pattern but the centre piece is dealt with slightly differently.

To keep thread changes to a minimum I quilted the blue bits of both quilts before changing to grey. Both quilts lack only a few more lines. I badly want to get started on the binding because that is certainly something I could occupy myself with during the evenings after work. Most times I'm too tired to do anything creative much. However, I'm more confident than ever to make my deadline and deliver these quilts on time.

Giraffes and Elephants

One of Fiona's Sunday Stash acquisitions reminded me of a quilt I made as a Christmas present last year. I might have posted a picture before, or I might not, I'm not sure. I'm a little scatterbrained. But I made it for a very cute boy that's already walking and climbing now and I loved the finished result. So why not post a few old snaps?

I still love the simple design but I think my straight has improved a ton.  

It was the first quilt I ever bound and I did it by machine which stressed me so much even before discovering that I had to re-do several bits. It's been hand sewing ever since for me, if only the binding. First time I used a label, too!
