Fresh Sewing Day

February has been pretty drab on the sewing front. I've managed to work on my hexies but all other sewing has been relegated to the back seat. And there's so much I want to make!

A new apron, for instance, to replace this terribly worn out and slightly boring number.

Wouldn't it be much more fun to cook in something made out of this?

And I desperately want to sew up something pillow-y with these pretties.

Finally, I want to delve into the baby fabrics and start making things for my niece/nephew, especially now that I've seen this adorable mini quilt over at Angela's Cut to Pieces.

Instead I'm busy unpacking and cleaning. There's still a ton to do but I've managed to turn the office from this...

... to this. Not completely done but getting there.

And my stash boxes are safely back here.

Never fear, my stash isn't that tiny - you can't see the two big fabric boxes and one yarn box at the bottom of the shelf... Three of the top four boxes hold fabric for one project each - baby things, HST Grecian Waters, and the Wedding Anniversary quilt. I'd better get going on the latter, still looking for the right pattern/idea, as we only just had our half-anniversary last week. Time clearly goes by quickly when you're moving.

The living room's still pretty messy but our dinner table is already positioned close to one of the large windows to provide light for my future sewing exploits. I'm considering putting up framed wedding pictures on the wall behind it.

Hopefully I'll make enough progress that I can break out my machine soon. March deserves more creativity!

Update: The Move Part 2 (or 4 Depending On The Way You Keep Track)

I'm safely back in Berlin and relaxing at my in-laws after what has been quite the easy move and two busy days. After my last experience with movers, which some of you might recall, I was naturally somewhat anxious but everything went just swell this time around.

The movers were extremely professional and speedy. It took them just 2.5 hours to get everything into their truck yesterday morning and just 1.5 hours this morning to get everything into our flat. That's a total of four hours for everything. And I'm talking about two men doing the job. Last time it took four men 5 hours to load the truck only. What a difference! And it had nearly the same price tag! Telephone support was absolutely amazing, actually deserving the labelling support, too. I'm so relieved.

The afternoon was spent putting together several pieces of furniture and there's not a lot left to do tomorrow before we can start unpacking. Sure, we'll have to sort out one or two solutions for our new kitchen and bathroom but I'm confident. Same goes for internet and landline - already ordered and hopefully connected very soon.

I'll be feeling home and cosy in no time and I'll quickly be sewing again.

Kommando zurück! - As You Were!

After all this time of intermittent internet access and only few posts now and then, you might have been wondering about the recent barrage of posts. Well, it's not due to an improved situation with the providers. Nope, rather it's due to the extended stay in Berlin before and after my exam last Thursday. (I think I did well and it feels good to be done with it all!)

I'd planned a three-day stay when unexpectedly, very much so, and very last minute, too, a letter arrived informing us that a position as teacher trainee has opened up for my husband back in Berlin. We got the news less than two weeks ago and had just one day to consider it before hurriedly taking care of all kinds of organisational things like getting out of his contract and getting his papers to the right people in Berlin. This required me to travel earlier. Further, we were in dire need of finding a new flat - work starts in a week from yesterday and although he can crash at his parents' it's obviously so much nicer to have a proper retreat and home base. This required me to stay longer.

Thanks to my sister and her partner and their dedication and support, I not only had a pretty relaxed stay on their sofa, including a very girly sisters-only weekend, but I should be able to sign the lease for a wonderful apartment in our old neighbourhood tomorrow to move into on the 15th. Fingers crossed I've not jinxed it by telling early!

I've already found movers (already looking much better than last time's, fingers crossed), as well as a phone and internet provider that should get us connected on the day of the move (how splendid does that sound?!  fingers crossed), and I'm taking care of tons of other things like change of address orders etc.

We're moving back up! So so excited for so many reasons, I don't even care that we have only little time to pack everything up. Most must be done the rest of this week when I've returned to our current home and before the hubs leaves. I'll take care of the rest similarly to last time. Thankfully my sister will be joining me once more and a good friend from the UK will be visiting, too, whom I haven't seen since the wedding. (The trip has been planned since December, he couldn't possibly know he'd get himself into the chaos of a move. Ha.)

Fingers crossed for a smooth move and a quick ending to all our provider woes to allow for a speedy return to and finally regular again service on this blog. Ooooh.

I'm quickly approaching my blogiversary, too! Another thing to be excited about.
