Sunday Stash #24

So much for last week's resolution...

I really shouldn't have gone checking out shops with my good friend Conny but these 4 metres of gorgeousness were basically a steal and are just perfect for the next project for my baby girl. Okay, so they sparked the idea in the first place but I won't let that rain on my parade. In 2015 I'll be making an I Spy/Solids quilt for the little one. And would you believe it, I picked my usual palette and added that dainty lilac without anybody physically forcing me! Me, of all persons, choosing a girly colour? Yep, Conny was surprised, too.

Conny also gave me these I-can't-believe-how-cute-they-are onesies and hat that she made herself. I absolutely adore them and wouldn't mind a pyjama with the print for myself... Can't wait to put them to use once the baby's big enough.

Btw, you should really check out Conny's pattern shop, Santa Lucia Patterns, if you're from Europe and in love with Indie clothes patterns but don't like ordering and waiting for them to arrive from overseas.

Sunday Stash #21

I've acquired a few goodies to share on here over the past weeks and - shocker - most of them aren't going to be stashed and forgotten but are necessary for ongoing projects! Such as Gütermann silk thread for accent quilting on the Winter Baby Girl Quilt as well as yardage, quilting and silk thread for my Grecian Waters HST quilt. I set my mind on silk thread after stumbling upon this gorgeousness on Pieces of Contentment.

I'm so so excited to work on this project once the baby quilt is done!

Lastly, I also found this pretty print and bought two metres for some cushion-y goodness in the future, a cheap end of  bolt cut, and snap-fasteners to replenish my stash after making baby's first dresses.

Baring it All

I very much enjoy Fiona's Sunday Stash whenever I've gorged on pretties made a well-considered, project-related purchase but that only provides the tiniest glimpse and I've never bared it all. Well, Sarah of Sarah Quilts has a fun link party to do just that and it came timely as well. My stash nook suffered from a lot of pulling and cramming lately and it was high time to sit down and do some sorting.

Cute anecdote: My husband came home whilst I was still in the middle of this process sitting on the sofa surrounded by boxes, fabric, scraps and bags. He gave me a look, a smile and a properly gollum-y "My PRECIOUS!", dispappeared for a moment to put away his shoes and came back saying "Is sitting on the couch!" Yep, I melted a little. No word about me having too much fabric, either - could it be that he's given up come around?

Well, here are my two boxes of fabric sorted by colour. I will always keep these even though I will sometimes make specific project boxes.

And here's a box full of kidlet and baby friendly fabric as well as two small boxes for solids (minus the black and white I'm currently working with).

My precious Australian handprinted fabrics as well as thicker and more coarse fabrics to the left, Echo scraps (so precious, they've got to have their own place) and fabrics which haven't been washed yet on the right.

To the left my scrap box and bags. I purged quite a lot of less useful scraps yesterday. You know them, those tiny pieces that you tell yourself could be useful but end up not being touched ever. To the right my box with stray blocks like an unfinished Dresden, my leftover HSTs from my Emerald challenge quilt top, my finished hexies..

Not to be forgotten, my fashion fabrics, some bed linen, funky 80s GDR fabric from my mother-in-law.

And last but not least: Interfacing, felt, wool.

*Obviously not pictured: Batting, fiberfill, more interfacing, my growing stash of patterns, books, BurdaStyle magazines, sewing basket, notions, more knitting needles, ...

Turns out it looks like a lot less fabric when it's all neatly packed away. Well, umm, to be honest, there's still a couple of plastic bags underneath my desk with old scraps and fabrics given to me by friends or their mothers. So, yeah, it might be a little more once I take a moment to sort and purge that chaos. Another day.

Oh, another plus of keeping your stash organised? It is much easier for friends to spot fabric they like! These have been pulled for a bunch of little monster gifts. (Check out RevoluzZza's tutorial if you don't know it yet. You can find monsters - and a kitten - I've made before in my Flickr stream.)

Fresh Sewing Day

February has been pretty drab on the sewing front. I've managed to work on my hexies but all other sewing has been relegated to the back seat. And there's so much I want to make!

A new apron, for instance, to replace this terribly worn out and slightly boring number.

Wouldn't it be much more fun to cook in something made out of this?

And I desperately want to sew up something pillow-y with these pretties.

Finally, I want to delve into the baby fabrics and start making things for my niece/nephew, especially now that I've seen this adorable mini quilt over at Angela's Cut to Pieces.

Instead I'm busy unpacking and cleaning. There's still a ton to do but I've managed to turn the office from this...

... to this. Not completely done but getting there.

And my stash boxes are safely back here.

Never fear, my stash isn't that tiny - you can't see the two big fabric boxes and one yarn box at the bottom of the shelf... Three of the top four boxes hold fabric for one project each - baby things, HST Grecian Waters, and the Wedding Anniversary quilt. I'd better get going on the latter, still looking for the right pattern/idea, as we only just had our half-anniversary last week. Time clearly goes by quickly when you're moving.

The living room's still pretty messy but our dinner table is already positioned close to one of the large windows to provide light for my future sewing exploits. I'm considering putting up framed wedding pictures on the wall behind it.

Hopefully I'll make enough progress that I can break out my machine soon. March deserves more creativity!

Fabric Frenzy

So much pretty fabric arrived on my doorstep on Monday! Happy times. What's best, I've only had to pay for one yard out of 12.5 and two charm packs! I love fabric parcels, even more so when they've been sponsored by others. I love them so much and they're integral to my next big projects, so I just had to share.

The first parcel contained lots of Ready, Set, Go! which will be converted into quilts for a baby and his toddler brother. The fabrics are lovely to look at and I literally can't wait to start working with them this weekend. The stars are from a different line and I've planned to use them for the binding to add a (even more) whimsical touch.

 

The second parcel came from the Fat Quarter Shop, like the first. Side note: I just love how neatly and beautifully they pack their parcels. It's a shame to open them instead of just hugging them close to your body in their arranged beauty. What you're saying? That's just me? Oh well..

The parcel contained some Aneela Hoey and several organic prints, which I don't have specific plans for as of yet, but they've been on my radar for a while and when my mum offered to feed my fabric addiction buy me some fabric I jumped at the opportunity to get my greedy little fingers on them. My first charm packs, too!

The final parcel contained a yard of Flea Market Fancy, Grey Eyelet. It's the only print that really intrigued me, but it has done so ever since I started reading quilting blogs and with the fabric selling like hot cakes, I had to make sure I'd get them.

 

With these latest arrivals I've finally got all the fabrics that I intend to use in our wedding quilt top. Lots and lots of Echo which I got for Christmas, some Secret Garden, some Little Apples, and the FMF Eyelet.

I still have to get some fabric for the backing, but I'm in no rush (yet). Actually, I'm considering to print one or two pictures of us at Spoonflower to sew into the backing, as a special and semi-secret detail. Do you have any experience with Spoonflower? Or printing (lasting) pictures onto fabric?
